How to get Married to a Malaysian in Malaysia if you are a Filipino Citizen

If you are a Filipino citizen and you have a Malaysian fiancé who wish to get married in Malaysia. This is the procedure:-

1.Get a Birth Certificate and CENOMAR (Certificate of no Marriage Record) issued by NSO, Manila or from the nearest Regional NSO Branch.

2.Get an Affidavit of Parents if your parents is in the Phils. proving that you are still single and that they agree for your decision to marry your fiancé. (Only if the embassy official asked you too)

3.Submit all the documents to DFA, Manila for further authentication.

4.Submit all this documents to the Phils. Embassy in Malaysia together with your application for Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage. (Embassy provide the form) and ready a 2 passport size photo of you and your fiance.

5.Wait for 10 Days for approval.

6.Once approved go to Wisma Putra in Putrajaya for further endorsement. Payment is RM20.

7.After Wisma Putra proceed to JPN (Marriage and Divorce Department) also in Putrajaya. Tell the counter that you are getting married. The counter will ask you for your documents. If your documents have no problem the officer will ask you where you want to get married. If you choose other place than Putrajaya the officer will just issue you the approval letter to be given to the JPN Branch you choosed.

8.Go to the JPN Branch you choosed. The officer then will ask what marriage licence you want. Normal Marriage or Special Marriage. And also will ask you to choose the date. Normal Marriage have to wait for 21 Days (they put both your names on notice board and pray no one oppose you two are getting married). Both of you must also be a resident in the same place in Malaysia for 7 Days before you can submit your marriage application And you must get married within six months after your 21 days notice expired. Special Marriage Licence is also called Express Marriage no more waiting for 21 days and 7days resident in one place is also waived BUT you have to wait for one week for approval and you must have a valid reason why you want to get married that fast. So its not Express after all. Getting married this March 10, 2010 hopefully it goes fine.

9.After marriage i've yet to inquire of the next procedure. I've read in some forum that you have to go back to Wisma Putra for your Marriage Cert for attestation before you can submit a copy to the Embassy to report your marriage.

What to do in Philippines and Malaysia .
Getting Affidavit of Parents you have to go a Notary Public. Then you have to instruct them to pass this documents to the Regional Trial Court for the issuance of Certificate of Authority for a Notarial Act. Normally lawyer office wait until end of month to submit their documents to Regional Trial Court. In my case which is urgent they just gave me a copy of the page of their notarial register book in which I made an appointment and a letter to the excecutive judge and brought them myself to the Regional Trial Court (Iriga). My cousin wife is working inside the RTC (Iriga) so I just approached her.She brought me to the Administration Section and announced to the workers there to help me “ she is family” an old lady received my documents for verification asked me to go the casher and pay P50.00, once paid asked me to sit down and wait while they are preparing the documents and for the judge to sign. I waited for 1 hour coz the Judge was not there. Regional Trial Court in Iriga City are operating behind closed doors you will never know its open when you don’t know. Have to knock on their doors when you needed them. And it is so much easier if you know someone inside as you’ll get a short cut to get your documents done. ((Evil Grins))
When you already have all your documents (NSO BC, CENOMAR,Affidavit of Parents with the Certificate from RTC) proceed to DFA Manila Authentication Section. Queue there is extremely long and they only accept documents until 11:30am. Lucky for me I did not cut off in the line its almost 11:30am when I got to the counter. It takes 5 days for DFA to process the documents before you can collect them. I decided I don’t want to back there again, I go to the basketball court and I asked the WWW Express to collect them on my behalf, the payment is only P280.00. The bus fare from my place is P730 one way, better save.WWWExpress not only collect your documents can also ask them to submit your documents for authentication just go to their nearest branch and pay them to do the job for you if you want to save you money and want to relax. I paid them to do the rest of my documents they are reliable and efficient. They are the same company with DHL. No branch in Iriga City so my documents is own collection myself in Naga City branch.
After I collected all my documents I cameback to Malaysia and submitted the papers at the Phils. Embassy.
I have one documents misplaced so I asked my parents to get a new one for me and send them to me in Malaysia only to be rejected by the embassy officer as she said it was fake (only found out later that it is not) so I go back to Philippines again to get a new copies myself. The new copies is the same copies as the one she said its fake so found out here that it was actually not fake. DFA actually change paper only. Will thanks God after I submitted them it is okay and they asked me to comeback in 10 Days. At this time waiting to get married.

  1. Hi Rosse,

When you arrived in MY to get married, did you also need a return ticket to PH? Or the documents in hand are enough to convince the immigration officer that you are getting married in Malaysia.

Also, when you arrive in MY, you only get 30 days of social visit time. But given the time lines, it seems that it will require 31 days just to get all the necessary documentation sorted out. How did you get your stay extended in MY?

    Thanks in advance,
    Eddie

  2. Hi baljitsk,

Immigration officer in Philippines will always ask you for a return ticket and same when you arrive in Malaysia. So yes returned ticket is a must. To prevent the IMI officers from asking you so many question and to prevent detention just present your return ticket and invitation/sponsor letter(with Phil. Embassy KL approval).

I get my paperworks sorted out for a few months actually starting from Nov. 2009 due to hiccups here and there. When my first 30 days about to expire i extended my returned ticket to another 30 days then i go to Singapore for 4 days then returned to Malaysia. Singapore immigration is okay but Malaysia IO will ask so many question so bring along all documents to proved them that you are getting married. After my another 30 days on re-entry about to expire i go back to Phils. asked my bf then to get me a new invitation letter from Phils. embassy and returned air ticket. I then re-re-enter to Malaysia after 2 weeks. Finally all my paperworks are done but to get married u need to stay for 7 days before u can apply for marriage registration and another 21 or is it 22? days waiting period. What i did, i went to Hattyai, Thailand and re-renter after 5 days. I already holding my marriage appointment and have my returned ticket so i did not get any problem with IO at the border.

Hope the above info help you.
    Thank you for dropping by.

Thanks for your blog rosse, i got a lot of info base on your blog... great idea.. you help a lot.

Thanks, and congrats for all ur achievements.

    Dhongs

  4. Hi Dhongs,

Firstly you need to renew your passport , to get a 3 months visa you can apply for a Visa without reference at the Malaysia High Commission in Manila . Address and contact number can be found on their website http://www.kln.gov.my/web/phl_manila/home

Document required for visa application without reference (approval of visa is given by High Commission of Malaysia) are:

    1. Original passport
    2. Two (2) photocopies of passport
    3. Two (2) photocopies of visa application form (Form IMM.47)
    4. Two (2) passport size photograph of applicant
    5. Original air ticket and two (2) photocopies (confirmed and returned ticket)
    6. Bank statement / traveler's cheque
    7. Invitation letter (if any)
    8. Payment of visa fee

Note : Visa Without Reference is required for the purpose of social visit.

You can visit Malaysia Immigration website at this address www.imi.gov.my for more info.

  5. Hi Rosse,

Good day, Its me Dhongs again.... by the before i proceed to my question's let me congrats u for your coming angel..
so exited is it? thanks GOD... and thanks for the response.
I just want to ask rosse about the processing of visa application, how long it takes. Because i've been book our ticket already but the passport renewal right now in PH is taking long time compare to before because of the automation prcedure. Only i know after i do booking. So, i need to rebook our ticket for this reason. but i don't know what is the gud timing.
    About driving's licence...
Is after getting married here in Malaysia, can i able to get a driving's licence? or is it takes long time for me to apply for a driving's licence? what is the procedures for the Malaysian spouses to get a driving's licence.
    Thanks in advance and congrats...

    Dhongs

  6. Hi Dhongs thanks. Passport renewal in Philippines is only 7 days when you do it in DFA Manila. As for the visa application at the Malaysia High Commission in Manila sorry i do not know but i think its only one week (came across it before). Do call any immigration office to inquire. And rebook your ticket when you done renewing your passport.

Getting a driving licence, you can start to learn anytime. Just get yourself to a driving school and they will guide you all the way.

  7. Thanks Rosse for the info... God bless...

  9. Hi Rossie i suggest you call the Phil. Embassy to inquire regarding your query. Thank you.

  10. Hi Rosse,

I find your blog very informative and certainly assist me a lot in the preparation of the required

Im a Malaysian and will be getting married to my Filipina fiancee soon

    Summary of your notes above:
    1. CENOMAR by NSO (9 days)
    2. Affidavit of Parents (Notary Public
(How many days to get done?)
    3. Bring docs to DFA (5 days)
    4. Submit to Phil Embassy in KL (10 days)
    5. Wisma Putra endorsement (1 day)
    6. JPN Putrajaya - choose location of registration (1 day)
    7. State JPN - choose date and get married within 14days

    Are the process in sequence?

Also, once all the paperwork is ready in the Phil,is it better to get a Visa W/Out Reference from Mysian High Comm in Manila prior to coming to Mysia or just proceed with the docs to Mysia direct and do points 4,5,6 & 7?

We plan to get registered in Mysia in Nov 2010 and I hope the processing times are accurate and prompt in Phil

    Thanks for your advise!

    Cheers,
    Vivek V

  11. Hi Vivek thanks for dropping by and sorry for the late reply. I was in confinement and been in hospital longer than i expected. Anyway hope my info still helps

    1. CENOMAR by NSO (9 days)
    2. Affidavit of Parents (Notary Public
(To get it done 1 - 2 days)
    3. Bring docs to DFA (5 days)
    4. Submit to Phil Embassy in KL (10 days) ~ 10 Working Days
    5. Wisma Putra endorsement (1 day)
    6. JPN Putrajaya - choose location of registration (1 day)
    7. State JPN - choose date and get married within 14days

Are the process in sequence? Yes it is

Also, once all the paperwork is ready in the Phil,is it better to get a Visa W/Out Reference from Mysian High Comm in Manila prior to coming to Mysia or just proceed with the docs to Mysia direct and do points 4,5,6 & 7?

    - Now Malaysia aborted the visa on arrival so you have to apply Visa for her prior to arriving in Malaysia i advice you to get visa with reference as it is more convenient for ur fiancee, one month visa is not enough to stay in Malaysia while waiting to get married.

All the best to both of you and Congratulation as well.

  12. Hello Rosse,

Congratulations on your soon to come bundles of joy :)

Please allow me to introduce myself, My name is Riza, a filipina and I am also located in Subang Jaya.

Would you have an idea how to go about Marriages between Filipinos in KL?

    Salamat :)

  13. Hello Reza,

Thank you, my bundle of joy is already 2 months this week.

Sorry hindi ko alam ang paraan kong magpapakasal kayo dito kung pareho kayo Fiipino. You have to call the embassy on this. Kung Malaysian ang fiance mo please read the blog above this comments.

  14. Hi Rosse,

    Hope you are well.

I'm Ekeng from East Malaysia. I just married with my filipino wife on December 2010.

Immigration office has approved her long term social visit pass today.

Thanks for your information. It's really help us a lot.

    Best regards, ekeng

  15. Hi Ekeng,

Thanks for stopping by, you are very much welcome. :-)

All the best to you and your wife.

    Regards,
    Rose

  16. hi rosse......

For Malaysian and foreign nationals who would like to invite Filipinos to come to Malaysia, a Filipino national, who is a resident of
Malaysia, should submit an invitation letter or guarantee letter and photocopy of passport. wat if wala kilalang filipino na resident sa malaysia ung nag iinvite pano ma aaprove ung invitation nya? pls help..

    thanks rosse...

  17. Hi Dess,

Thanks for stopping by... kung walang kilalang Malaysian or Filipino resident yong nagiinvite then if your friend/loveone in Philippines is financially independent he/she can apply for visa at Malaysian High Commission in Manila.

Additional info : If a Malaysian or Filipino national sponsor someone to come to Malaysia they need to submit their Bank Statement and Employment letter together with the application form at the Phils. Embassy, KL.

or You can call Phils. Embassy to ask for more info. Thanks.

  18. Hi Rosse,

Im planning to get married here in Malaysia, This Dec. 2011, I've been working here since last year. Do I need to process all of those to be able to get married? Or it will be a different process?

  19. Dj Cowboy,

You have to process all those paperworks if you are a Filipino national marrying a Malaysian and getting married in Malaysia. If both of you are from Philippines then it will be a different process.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  20. Hi Rosse,

Your entry has been a lot helpful to me.Thanks for posting.

I am as well a Filipino and marrying my Malaysian BF in few days. We have done all the necessary procedures, just that we are about to go to JPN Putrajaya for registration. I would just like to know about the Special Marriage or the express one because we are on a hurry as my bf has to go back to UK in the next few days because of work. Do you have any idea how fast really this is? And have you got any idea what other requirements they would ask if we decide to choose this express one?

Thank you so much for all your help and hope all is well with you and your family.

    Salamat talaga =)
    **Shalomar**

  21. Hello Shalomar

Based on our inquiry before I got married, express marriage is not really express as you still have to wait for 7 working days for the application to get approved by the higher authorities and only if you have valid reason why you want to get married that fast. Do inquire with the JPN for more info.

    Thank you for stopping by.

  22. Hi Rose,

  24. Hi rosse, Im dennis(filipino) leaving and working in thailand. My malaysian girlfriend(catholic) is here working as well. First of all i want to thank you for sharing your experience and for helping a lot of people. We plan to get married may next year 2012 and we are going back to east malaysia this october to get engage. I have acquired CENOMAR and birth cert with the help of the relatives back home. I have a question and i thank you in advance for the help

Do i have to be physically present in mania to have all the docs authenticate by DFA? can my relatives in manila do it for me? I have limited work leave and i plan to use them to go around west malaysia for the other documents.

    SALAMAT
    God bless you Rosse

  25. Hi Dennis thanks for stopping by...regarding to your question relatives can do it for you provided they have your authorization letter. I once use an agent to do it for me.

  26. Tnx Rosse for the advice. Rosse, can you give an idea how its goin to be after the marriage. After the marriage we plan to go back thailand to work for couple of years. Will the malaysian government give me like spouse visa right away or do i have to apply for it? And if they do, how long is it before i renew it?

    Salamat in advance. God bless

  27. Hi Ms. Rosse.

Me and my Malaysian bf is planning to get married as early as December 2011 or January 2012. To be honest, I have never set foot in MY before and it will be my first time to go there later this year.

We already know the processing will be difficult but we also are eager to know about you and your husband's personal experiences about the interracial marriage of Filipina to Malaysian citizen.

Also, I know that for stays longer than 1 month, I need to apply for a visa. Social passes will require me to show a minimum daily budget of US$50/day and hotel booking as part of the entry requirement to Malaysia. But my stay there this December will be at my bf's house. Do you think it is possible not to show any budget and hotel booking? That I will just need to show the IMI some proof that I will be taken in by my bf during the whole stay? In your point of view, around how much in PhPeso was needed for the processing of all necessary documents? I would really love to get in touch with you. Please do email me at rinbyul@gmail.com since I know I have further questions to ask. Your blog is like heaven-sent! Thanks a lot! Looking forward to your email response. God bless you.

  28. Hi rose,

I'm balan and i just got married to my beautiful filipina wife. We are confused on the post marriage where we need to submit our report of marriage. How do we do that ? according to the philembasy website, we needed 4 copies of marriage certificate. Do they meant by xerox copy or original copy ? we received only 2 original certificates.

Hope to hear from u soon

  29. Hello Balan,

Congratulations! To report your marriage to Phils. Embassy you have to do this

    1) Photocopies your Marriage Cert (if they need four then do it)
2)Bring the original and photocopies of the Marriage Cert in Wisma Putra in Putra Jaya for Endorsement.
    3) After Endorsement bring all this documents to Phils. Embassy together with the copies of your 'Application to contract Marriage' - hope you made photocopies of all your documents.
    4) Wait for 3-4 working days for approval and you are done.

    Thats all.

  30. hi rosse,

thank you so much for the advice. We will proceed to get it done :).

  31. Hi rosse,

im a bit confused what to do first,Is it report the marriage and then went IMMI office to get a new visa ?or after i registered the marraige directly proceed to IMMI office?
Hope you can give the senquences inorder.
    Thanks a lot.

  32. hi remz,

    1) Wisma Putra
    2) Phils. Embassy
    3) Immigration

you can go to immi office while waiting for your marriage report from the embassy.

  33. Rosse,
thank you so much .Your blog is such a great help for me coz i dont have any friends to ask here in malaysia and i only been relying on your blog....

  34. Hi Rosse,
Its me again Remz,i would like to ask where is the IMMI office? as i we went to Putrajaya near JPN they told us it wasnt the place for applying spouse visa.
    Your response is highly appreciated.

  35. Hi Remz,

You can go to Immigration office near your place if there is one. I got my visa at Shah Alam Immi office.

  36. hi rosse im cris F from phil.going to malaysia.at im going to marry my fiance in malaysia.kung mag papakasal poh ako sa malaysia anung kailngan na documents ipakita sa immigration if nessesary if they ask.

    >invitaion letter or guarantee letter and photocopy of passport.

as what you say:If a Malaysian or Filipino national sponsor someone to come to Malaysia they need to submit their Bank Statement and Employment letter together with the application form at the Phils. Embassy, KL.

    i dont have adea

  37. Hi Cris,

I suggest you inquire Phil. Embassy.
    Thank you.

  38. if visit only what for 3 weeks what to bring when immigration ask....?

except ticket, passport, and other requirement is invitation letter/ guarante letter and photocopy of passport???but when u said additional info need to submit thir bank statement and employment letter together with application form at the phil. embassy at KL.?application for what?? i only want to know how to pass the imigration in phil.airport

  39. Hi Cris,

"but when u said additional info need to submit thir bank statement and employment letter together with application form at the phil. embassy at KL.?application for what??" --------------- that is for Invitation letter/Sponsor Letter -

  40. thanks can i ask again...because now philippine airport is strict, i dont have idea how to pass in airport because its my first time imigration, sometimes they dont allow and curuse about if 1 month tour or visit. i dont want waste anthing because my ticket is so expensive.and i want to stay for 1 month in KL.what should i do?tell me? tnx hope you reply me again about this

  41. Hi Cris,

As long you have your passport, invitation letter/sponsor letter galing sa Phil. Embassy dito sa Malaysia na inaply ng fiance mo at RM1,000 na show money (just in case) wala ka nang problema. Kung in case tanongin ka nang immigration dito sa Malaysia o kaya diyan sa Pinas what is your purpose na pupunta ka sa Malaysia sabihin mo you are getting married at ipakita mo mga dokumento mo sa pagpapakasal dito. At advise lang strickto din immigration dito lalo kung first time mo mag travel.

  42. sis my invitation letters is for vacation only can stay for 30days???sis pwede b magpa regester lng muna pero consider ba na kasal na yun?eh balak kasi namin sa dec. p ung kasal.pwde b un?

  43. Hi Cris it is advisable you leave after your 27-28 days stay to be on the safe side. If you have your marriage registration done you are considered legally married.

  44. ahh okiepoh sistnx sa advice.pewde ask sis after b ng regester.at kukuha ng visa may bayad poh ba pag kukuha ng visa at ilang days siya matatapos

  45. Hi Cris please read this post : http://rosseorbon.blogspot.com/search/label/Marriage%20in%20Malaysia

  46. sis rosse can i ask last Question.

im going to MY next week and all my papers are complete and applying for regestered for married for 1 month.after marry can get visa fast because my limit only is 1 month.pero kung kulangin ako pwde ko bang e extend nlng ung passport ko for visa...so i can stay long in MY as citizine.

thanks poh sis..^_^ hope i enjoy staying MY

  47. Dera Cris please know that you are going to submit all documents to Phils. Embassy first,

    1. Submit to Phil Embassy in KL (10 days) ~ 10 Working Days
    2. Wisma Putra endorsement (1 day)
    3. JPN Putrajaya - choose location of registration (1 day)
    8. State JPN - choose date and get married within 14days
so overall you are going to spend your one month processing your marriage registration that's why you need to exit malaysia before your 30 days unless you get your visa at the Malaysian High commission in Manila then you can apply for your visa extension. As for your fiance unemployed you have to inquire the Malaysia immigration how to extend your visa after your marriage registration.

  48. sis after married pwde nb akong kumuha ng visa?eh panu sis ung passport ko 1 month stay lang eh kung ayaw na akong pabalikin ng husband ko sa pinas panu ung stay ko sa MY para makakuha ng visa..bigyan mo nga me ng idea sis how my situation like that.

ex.im going to KL on 24 then my passport back to manila is 22 or 23 like that..kailngan ko bang e pa extend ung passport ko?kasi diba limitation of tour or visit is 3months.para makakuha ako ng visa so no more get back to manila...give me so idea sis..i dont know..

  49. Hi Cris I have already answered your queries above :-)

  50. sis may i know ure email in facebook can i add you..i want to talk to you for some question sis if its okie for you..i need help only

  51. hi cris this is my email : roseorbon@ymail.com
